Skin ageing results from biological changes in the skin. Barrier function is reduced causing an increase in water loss from the skin. Skin cell turnover slows and there are pigment production changes causing dryness and an uneven skin tone. In ageing skin collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid levels decrease leading to reduced firmness, elasticity and hydration. This results in fine lines, wrinkles, discolouration, dullness and decreased skin tone.
Ageing of the skin can be divided into two categories: intrinsic and extrinsic.
Intrinsic ageing, known as natural or chronological ageing, normally begins in our mid-20s and is determined by genetics.
Extrinsic ageing accounts for up to 90% of skin ageing and is largely controllable. The most common causes are:
- Sun exposure – the major cause, often referred to as PHOTOAGEING
- Pollution and environmental stressors
- Lifestyle choices, such as smoking and alcohol consumption
The good news is that you can reverse some of this damage and prevent future negative effects on the skin.
How can my ageing skin be treated?
The Aesthetics Nurse will work with you to form a bespoke treatment package to specifically target ageing. The severity will determine what treatments you would require.
However, typically treating pigmentation involves a series of medical facials of either one, or a combination of the following:
- AlumierMD Skin Treatments
- LED Light Therapy
- The Perfect Peel
- Targeted Skin Care Regime
These treatments hydrate, remove pigmentation and stimulate collagen to rejuvenate wrinkles and plump the skin.
How quickly will I see results?
Some of the treatments will have an instant tightening and brightening effect on the skin however repeated treatments are necessary for lasting results.
How much will it cost to rejuvenate my skin?
The Aesthetics Nurse packages are the perfect way to kickstart your journey to healthier skin.
