LED Light therapy

LED light therapy is the use of clinically proven wavelengths of UV-free LED lights for the treatment of skin conditions. LED light therapy is a painless skin-care treatment that can boost collagen production and treat acne as well as a host of other benefits. “LED” stands for light-emitting-diodes and the treatment was first developed by NASA. The treatment works by emitting light that is absorbed into the deeper layers of the skin.

LED results are clinical proven and whilst the results are not as dramatic as plastic surgery or laser treatments, it is gentler, more natural, pain free and offers zero downtime.

It is often referred to as ‘phototherapy’ Each wavelength of light emitted has a different effect on the skin.

Red light therapy at 630nm is used for anti-ageing because of its ability to stimulate collagen and elastic production.

The increase in collagen production strengthens the skin making it more resilient which is why it is used for the effective treatment of rosacea and reducing the redness associated with broken capillaries. The naturally stronger skin also helps retain moisture effectively.

The use of red light is used to reduce the inflammation within the tissues to help the healing process which can be evident if the treatment of repairing sun damaged skin, fading scars, healing blemishes and improving overall skin tone and texture.

Blue light therapy at 415nm is predominantly used for its anti-bacterial properties and in the main the treatment of acne. The blue light emitted from the device is absorbed by porphyrin. The bacterial causing acne, P.acne contains abundant amounts of porphyrin and when the blue light is absorbed an oxygen free-radical is created which is released into the bacteria and results in bacterial death.

Blue light also has anti-inflammatory characteristics although the best results are seen when combining red and blue light for its additional skin rejuvenation and wound healing benefits.

Infrared light is also known for its effect on skin as is emitted at 830nm and penetrates much deeper than the red light and the blue light meaning an ability to promote the healing of wounds and pain relief.

Generally the mask will remain in place for approximately 20 minutes.

Light therapy is non invasive and normal activities resumed immediately post treatment.

Light therapy is so versatile it has something to offer everyone.
