Micro needling, also known as skin needling therapy has been used as a form of Collagen Induction as an anti-ageing treatment since the 1990’s.
Sometimes skin conditions of scarring and acne scarring, stretch marks and aged skin require a higher grade medical procedure for faster, more effective results.
This can be delivered with the Micro Needling treatment using a pen device - delivering ultimate precision. It uses the body’s own healing process to produce new collagen resulting in tighter, smoother, younger-looking skin free of concerns.
You may be aware of such methods of micro-needling such as derma roller? This is the same principle, except a pen device can offer a much more precise treatment and far more superior results.
It can be performed on any part of the body...
- Improve skin tone and texture
- Reduce wrinkles
- Improve sun damage
- Reduce pigmentation
- Improve rosacea and broken capillaries
- Improve scarring
- Improve acne scarring
- Reduce pore size
- Improve stretch marks
Micro needling is undertaken using a pen device which where a cluster of needles vertically pierce the skin causing tiny, invisible micro wounds or channels. These wounds stimulate the skins own repair process. This promotes intense renewal, repair and rejuvenation. Natural growth factors are released to stimulate reformation and deposition of fresh restructuring collagen.
Skin is cleansed with a prepping agent and a hyaluronic acid serum, along with an antioxidant cocktail is applied to the skin. (Hyaluronic acid is naturally occurring in skin and one of the major components that keeps our skin plump, firm and glowing) This means these ingredients are delivered deep in to the skin where they are used most effectively. Here at The Aesthetics Nurse clinic, only high quality medical grade serums are used.
The derma pen is gently glided over the skin and is generally well tolerated without much discomfort. The derma pen is adjusted in depth reached depending on your skin concern.
Your micro needling session ends with a hydrogel mask to further enhance results and reduce immediate inflammation prior to you leaving the clinic.
The whole treatment generally lasts approximately 1 hour.
Normal activities activities may resume post treatment, however, the following activities should be avoided for the 2 days after treatment:
- Direct sun exposure
- Intensive gym sessions
- Hot showers, spas or saunas, bathing
- Self tanning
Some slight skin redness is normal for up to 2 days post treatment.
Your skin may be more sensitive and so you will be required to wear an SPF minimum of factor 40.
Micro needling is suitable for all skin types, however micro needling will not be performed in the following cases:
- Rosacea associated with acne
- Severe actice acne
- Active coldsores
- Skin infections or open wounds
- Skin cancer
- Auto-immune disease
- Certain medications, such as warfarin or aspirin
If you suffer from any of these conditions, or are unsure, please contact The Aesthetics Nurse. There may be a more suitable treatment available or you may just require some pre treatment.
This is entirely dependant on the skin concern being treated.
Results may be seen after just one session, however more may be required. Generalised rejuvenation can be achieved in most cases in around 6 sessions. Conditions such as scarring or stretch marks may require a minimum of 8 - 10 sessions
Initial results can be seen within 10 days but will take weeks to see the full effect. Therefore, skin needling is generally performed at approximately 4 weekly intervals.
